The curious wager of the fechheim pastor
A campaign by the "fundraising team" at the community festival made a huge impact for the renovation of the michaelskirche which will start soon. Fur "wetten, dass" pastor ulrike schmidt-rothmund climbs onto the scales. In the current issue of the parish newsletter, she had made a bet with the members of the church community that she would not succeed in paying them off with donated small change.
The church barn was well filled and many onlookers were there when the pastor stepped on the scales. Because the visitors to the festival had once again thrown in a lot of small change, the coarse glass jar was almost full of coins. It weighed 55 kilograms – as much as the "real weight" by ulrike schmidt-rothmund, which was weighed again on the stage. The interest was no surprise: after all, the pastor had announced that if she lost the bet, she would get into her wedding dress again and dance on the stage with her husband. The proceeds of the betting campaign are impressive: 986.96 euros were collected for the fechheim church, which is in need of renovation. "A fantastic sum, which I had never expected", said ulrike schmidt-rothmund, after the money from the rough glass fab was paid through.
Blumenroder kicks well
The community celebration kicked off with a church service featuring many people who are on the way together as a church community: volunteers told why they are involved in senior citizens’ work or in the "fema circle," for example. The candidates present for the church council elections on 21 june were also invited to participate. October were briefly introduced and told what motivates them to work for the community. After the service, visitors to the community festival had the opportunity to discover the wide range of volunteer work in fechheim at 13 different stations.
There was also a lot of sporting action: at the second edition of the people’s soccer tournament, the team from blumen managed to take home the victory for the second time.
