Rannungers are a happy kickboxing family
"We kickboxers may be opponents on the mat, but off the mat we are often on friendly terms," says volz, who works at ZF, explains holger volz, organizer of the squad training of the kickboxing federation world karate& kickboxing commission WKC and international combat organisation ICO. For the third time, the final training for the WKC world championship (27. October to 2. November) in dublin and the ICO world cup (3. By 6. November) in rome.
The organizing martial arts department of TSV rannungen was founded by holger volz together with his son nils. "We’ve been doing this for three years now and it’s still fun", says the multiple WKC vice world champion. "I started training in bad konigshofen because i just wanted to try kickboxing. I liked kickboxing right away; I was in konigshofen for a long time and then switched to TSV hofheim."
At some point the journey was too far for him, as he had been living in rannungen for 28 years. That’s why he approached TSV. They were very open to the idea of establishing a martial arts department. Since then the TSV rannungen organizes the squad training before the WKC world championship. "This year for the first time we organized it together with the ICO", reports holger volz "we don’t have any rough competition among the associations. We work together very amicably".
On friday evening, the first participants from all over germany traveled to the tranquil town of rannungen to prepare for the world cup for two days. Holger volz had planned with 99 people. "In the end, 112 were there; 85 of them were active", the 48-year-old is pleased. The remaining participants arrived on saturday morning. Olaf bertling, black belt from tsv gochsheim, was struggling for auarmen. In the afternoon, the athletes competed with each other in their disciplines. "In the evening a butcher friend served french cuisine, a highlight for those who came to the event. In addition there was kreuzberg beer and the participants slept on the mats in the hall."
On sunday morning we continued with sparring, then we had breakfast together and dismantled the mats. "Everyone has helped to clean up the mess", praises the organizer.
Thanks to his good contacts in the martial arts scene, volz had a team made up of "martial arts dinosaurs set up to give the young fighters their experience. Roland brodkorb helped with the training. The 64 year old has over 50 years of martial arts experience. "Gunter schonrock was also present. He is a good friend of mine and german champion. We always get it right; he’s one of the best, so it’s great fun", says holger volz. Especially to his son nils he has passed on his talent. The 20-year-old believes he has a chance at the two upcoming world championships in rome and dublin. "Nils is active in both federations and he is currently in absolute top form", praises father holger his filius. Nils helped his father to build up the martial arts department of the TSV.
"I take over the organization and thanks to the good cooperation with the club and our department manager sandro neumann we can offer training four times a week in the hall", explains holger volz. "We offer a complete training program for everyone. We train mother with her daughters and father with her sons. Meanwhile, we have a very high percentage of women.
For example, rebecca anderson has now managed to become german champion and fight in a fully sponsored team", says volz, who works as a master craftsman at ZF sachs.
In the meantime, his son nils has also managed to find a sponsored team in the cost-intensive sport that pays for his flights, among other things. In rannungen, the martial arts department has become an integral part of club life. Holger volz describes the annual world cup preparation as a "preserved squad tournament with friendly atmosphere".
